Gongfree Gongs

There has been discussions recently about metals used for singing bowls and gongs. Most sound therapy instruments are made out of a mix of metals.

We have titanium gongs which are exquisite.

Who knows what silver nickel actually is.

Interesting fact.

It contains 0 silver.

It actually is mostly copper and zinc - a range of alloys of copper, nickel, and zinc which are silvery in appearance but contain no silver. Its composition varies from 7 to 30 percent nickel, the alloy most widely used being 18 percent nickel silver (18 percent nickel, 62 percent copper, 20 percent zinc).

For comparison a chau gong is made of copper-based alloy, bronze, or brass….

Then there are stainless steel gongs which also are a mix of metals depending on maker.

This is why it is so important to actually try out your instruments in person as each gong can have a completely different feel to it.
